Kisii County Commissioner Chege Mwangi has ordered people operating businesses frequented by many customers to exercise highest caution on security, by frequently screening their clients.
Speaking on Monday at Gusii Stadium during the inter-denominational prayer service, Mwangi blamed business operators for taking security issues for granted.
“I ask supermarkets and hotel owners to take security issue serious. If you go to supermarkets and big hotels, you will find that security officers manning those places are not using the gadgets properly. They play with them like toys,” he noted.
However, he assured Kisii residents of security, and said they are conducting a thorough crackdown to arrest those who would be in the county illegally, but also urged them to report any suspects.
This comes a few days after three foreign nationals, who were found in Kisii town without clear documents from immigration department, were apprehended and arraigned in court.
“We are carrying out a crackdown to find out who is in the county ‘illegally’,” added Mwangi.
The County Commissioner’s remarks comes in the wake of a deadly attack by Alshaabab militants, who stormed into Garissa University College and killed 148 students, with Kisii County registering the highest number of deaths being 12.
