Residents of Molo Wednesday reacted to Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri's decision not to compensate victims of the 1992 Molo clashes.

In the WhatsApp group titled, Molo Politics, the residents have requested the area Member of Parliament Jacob Macharia to take up the matter in the august House.

“The CS says he can’t pay Molo victims affected during the 1992 clashes unless Parliament amends the IDPs Act 2012. Now we need the Molo MP to convince his colleagues to amend the Act,’’ stated John Kiragu.

‘’Last year, the Speaker (Justin Muturi) of the National Assembly visited Molo, following the invitation by MP Macharia. He should convince the Speaker for the amendments and for the sake of the 1992 victims who are still suffering 24 years down the line,’’ Vivian Njeri commented on the WhatsApp forum.

The discussions which dominated part of the morning went further, with some of the participants observing that even the county government needs to come along in addressing the situation.

On Monday, Kiunjuri stated that the law does not recognise victims of the 1992 Molo clashes for compensation, adding that only those who were affected in the 2007/08 post-election violence are now fully resettled.

He spoke when he appeared before a parliamentary committee on the implementation of resolutions passed by MPs.
