Sheikh Hammad Kassim, the former Muslim chief, Kadhi has urged Muslim students take up teaching professions as they pursue higher education so as to address the teachers’ shortage in their local schools.

Kassim said the Muslim communities along the Northern Kenya were facing numerous challenges as a result of terror threats that have led to non-local teachers refusing to venture into the regions due to insecurity.

“Due to the wicked and inhuman activities of the Al-Shabaab terror group in the counties of Wajir, Garissa and Mandera non-local teachers are declining postings and, therefore it is our duty as locals to equip ourselves with teaching skills to fill the void,” he said.

He also challenged the Muslim fraternity to stem out illiteracy, drug abuse and immorality among the youth so as to attain future empowerment in communities.

Kassim acknowledged that drug abuse among the youths as the main social vice compromising on the future of the youths in the country.
