Changamwe Member of Parliament Omar Mwinyi has appealed to parents in his constituency to ensure that their children are enrolled in primary schools early January.
Mwinyi said that denying children education has caused a lot of social problems in the constituency and Mombasa County at large.
He said that it was through education that parents will protect their children from joining juvenile gangs or even indulging in drug abuse.
Mwinyi who was addressing parents at Kwahola primary school said that all children who have attained the age of going to school must be enrolled to get basic primary education early January.
He said that most parents were not taking education seriously thus giving their children poor upbringing which later costs them.
He said that free primary education should enable all children to get a basic education as well as pursue higher education.
“You do not have any reason for denying your children education, I want to see all children at the age of 4 years enrolled in primary schools from January” he added.
The Changamwe legislature appealed to the area administration to take stern action against a parent who will ignore search call.
“What do you want your children to do if not taking them to school? You will only be raising criminals” he told the parents.
His sentiments were echoed by Kipevu ward representative Faith Mwende Boniface who revealed that she will be conducting a door to door campaign to ensure that children are in school.
Mwende said that leaders in the constituency were working towards ensuring full support to needy students so that they can join secondary and other higher learning institutions.
