Nakuru Deputy Governor Joseph Rutto, called on the church to stop taking a back seat in terms of developing the county, and reminded the church leadership that they are part of the county’s leadership.

Speaking during a Sunday mass at the PCEA Shabab Church in Nakuru, Rutto said that the church cannot run away from problems facing the county, and instead should help in offering solutions to the problems.

Rutto told the church to invest in sectors like education and health as one way of helping the county government better the two sectors.

“The church is and will always remain a critical component in any nation and the work of the church must not only be restricted on spiritual matters. The church must also participate in development matters and this is something that used to happen in the past,” said Rutto.

“If all the churches can have a school and a health facility, then the problems facing our education sector and the health sector will be solved and this will also create a lot of job opportunities for our young people,” said Rutto.

PCEA central rift moderator Daniel Gathimo, said the church was willing to work with the government in solving problems facing the county, but also called on the county government to listen and respect the church’s input in matters development and political.

“If the government and all political leaders could listen to the advice from the church then some of the problems facing this country would not be there, but the arrogance being displayed by some leaders is the sole cause of all this problems,” said Gathimo.
