Tala Member of County Assembly elect Alex Kamitu has launched a two day football tournament aimed at creating awareness to the youth on importance of shunning drugs and substance abuse.

The tournament will be held on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 with winners in different categories involving the under 18 and under 21 receiving trophies and medals.

Kamitu who was addressing youths in Katine Upper Manza offices said that there was need to educate the youths on the effects of drug and substance abuse as he gears to creating a moral society.

''The tournament is to raise public awareness and educate parents and their children about the health, safety and legal risks of serving alcohol at teen parties,'' said Kamitu.

He further urged church leaders and teachers within the area to join hands in working together to discourage the use of alcohol by those below the legal age of consumption and also urging all township citizens to refuse to provide alcoholic beverages to underage youth.
