Boda boda operators and motorists operating in Tala have been urged to join road safety training programmes in a bid to reduce the rising cases of road accidents in the area.

Speaking on Wednesday in Tala town Tala MCA, Peter Kamitu, said that it was critical for the youths working with the boda boda to get the skills necessary for their safety and their passengers too.

“It is risking the lives of your passengers and your own when you ride it without the necessary skills,” said Kamitu.

He urged residents to enroll themselves for training, since this will help in reducing road accidents in the area.

“We want to reduce the road accidents and therefore if you are a road user in this Constituency go receive training and acquire certificates because we are launching an inspection soon.” said Kamitu

The Member of County assembly stated that he would soon launch an agreement with Matungulu OCPD and police officers in the area to crack down unskilled motorists in a bid to reduce road carnage.

Kamitu further cautioned drivers and cyclist against drinking and driving.

“Riding or driving under the influence of alcohol has become a habit during the evening hours. It is illegal and risking life practicing this as a road user. If any boda boda rider is found drunk during working hours they will face hefty penalties,” said Kamitu.

Elsewhere in Machakos town the motorist had been urged to consider registering with insurance companies.
