Speaking to HiviSasa.com on Wednesday at Gusii stadium during the Kenya Technical Training Institute championship finals, the Academy’s Deputy Head Teacher Samuel Onyango said the main challenge they are experiencing in promoting talent in the region is financial constraints.

Onyango asked the county government to help them nurture talents and also help children from poor backgrounds enrol for basic education.

“We are identifying and nurturing talents but the main challenge we are facing is financial constraints. We are asking sponsors and the county government to come in and salvage the situation,” he appealed.

“A part from training children on co-curricular activities to enable them build their talents, we also take them through basic education. However, we are also facing challenges on this front because most of our children hail from poor backgrounds and others are orphans,” he said

Among the extra subjects that the children are trained on are music, art and craft, and drawing design.

Onyango said two children, Justine Mokua who plays drums and Dominic Magangi who plays a harp, were to represent the school in national competitions but could not take part due to financial hiccups.

He said the school also has a team that won at the drama festivals at the regional level last year but their ambitions ended at that stage since they did not have money to progress to the next stage.

He urged well wishers and the county government to come in and support them financially as they seek to nurture talent in the county.
