Residents in Makina village partook in a very good cause when they unblocked the drainage system in the area that was filled with garbage.
This act, however, will not bear any fruit as the residents left the collected garbage right beside the same drainage system they removed it from.
As the April rains draw near, the residents have been advised to ensure that drainage systems are not blocked for the free flow of rain water to avoid floods that may be caused by rains.
Kibera has been reportedly facing problems, especially in waste disposal. During rains, blocked water trenches make rainwater to flood since rain waters do not flow freely in the blocked drainage systems. The stagnant dirty water in the blocked drainage systems has caused foul smells.
Lack of dumping sites has brought about residents to dispose of wastes such as polyethene papers, food remains and vegetables remain in the drainage system in return these blocks the drainage water systems.
The residents seem to forget that the cleanliness of their environment depends on them.
