Talks between the government and doctor's union, aimed to reach an agreement over the on-going strike, have once again collapsed.
This is after doctors walked out of the closed door meeting held at Afya House, with Health Cabinet Secretary Dr Cleopa Mailu, and representatives from the Council of Governors such Kisii governor James Ongwae in-attendance.
The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) snubbed the meeting, a day after they as well failed to agree on better terms of ending the nationwide strike which entered its second day Tuesday.
Addressing the press after walking out of the meeting, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Dr Ouma Oluga said they were asked to sign a return to work formula yet doctors are not interested.
According to him, doctors will not sign a return to work formula without the implementation of the 2015 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), where they were to be awarded a 300 per cent salary increment.
"We can not sign a return to work formula without agreeing on the way forward over the CBA. We are settling at nothing less than implementation of the CBA,'' he said.
