Marsabit leaders have urged Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery to contain insecurity in the county that has left at least 20 people dead.

The leaders, addressing the press at Nairobi hotel, claimed that the killings are all politically instigated.

“Eight people were killed in Saku sub-county in May, 11 others killed in Isiolo-Marsabit border and two others were killed in June,” Jubilee gubernatorial candidate Mohamud Mohamed said. 

He said that hired goons were responsible for the attacks, further accusing security personnel in the region of laxity.

“These killings were always preceded by inflammatory statement made by politicians and the same politicians are traversing providing veiled assurances to the perpetrators that no action shall be taken against them,” he added.

“The recent killings were organised to create disharmony between communities during this electioneering period,” the senator said. 

On his part Saku MP Ali Rasso urged the government to increase surveillance and security in the region to curb attacks.
