Tana River County government is earmarked to splash Sh20 million in constructing modern toilets and a bus park.
The toilets will be built at specific markets in the county’s urban centres as well as schools and other technical institutions at a cost of Sh14 million while the balance will cater for the building of a bus park in a location that is yet to be identified.
The county government is said to be set to roll out programmes that aim at improving health conditions in the county.
The county’s budgetary estimates for the 2017/2018 financial year indicate that the health docket will consume the largest portion of the budget at 20 per cent.
According to the Sh20 sanitation investment plan, the modern toilets will have flash options as compared to pit latrines currently used in most market centres in the county.
The devolved unit targets at raising revenue by charging at least Sh10 per person for the facilities’ use.
The lavatories will equally have bathrooms where travelers will be able to refresh themselves from while on journey.
Governor Hussein Dado after his swearing in ceremony as the county’s first governor after the 2013 polls said public Health and sanitation will be his number one priority.
He promised to lobby for funding from foreign investors to put up health facilities that will treat non-communicable diseases like cancer, heart problems and diabetes.
