Tana River county government has banned indefinitely county seminars being organised and held in Malindi and Mombasa.

Governor Dhadho Godhana said all seminars should be done in Tana River to boost the county revenue.

At the same time, the Governor ordered all motor vehicles belonging to the county government to be repaired within the county and not outside as had been the trend in the previous years.

Addressing residents in Hola at the county headquarters Dhadho directed that all vehicles which are in garages to be towed from where they are to Tan river.

“Malindi and Mombasa conferences have been banned effective from January 2, all vehicles in garages in Malindi I order those in charge of transport to return them, the vehicles which are not ready should be towed to Tanariver county,’’ he said.

Dhadho said the move was in line with the country’s projection to boost revenue collection to Sh150 million this year.

He urged business people in Tanariver County to upgrade their garages, buy modern equipment’s to enable them to do the work.

The Governor said one way of attracting investors in the county was by opening more room for investment such as the establishment of modern conference facilities.

He also revealed that the county is going to create a conducive environment for swimming in river Tana to discourage locals from crossing to other counties to swim in the ocean.

“We want funds to be spent locally so that the county can get revenue from it,’’ he said.

He said there was a need to increase revenue collection within the county to avoid over-reliance on National Government funding,’’ he said.

Currently, he said the county had completed talks with business people in Galole and will move on to other sub-counties.

Further, he said the county government had set aside Sh60 million for the refurbishment of revenue offices in the county and training revenue officers.

The governor, however, said the move is not aimed at pressing traders in the county adding that he would harmonize to ensure smooth operations.

This year Dhadho said the county has set aside Sh100 million through the Inuka Fund to help empower women and youths access loans.
