Political bigwigs in Tana River County will on Wednesday battle it out as Jubilee Party carries out its nomination exercise in the region that is widely considered a battle ground. The epic battle will be witnessed in the race for the gubernatorial ticket as former Garsen MP and a veteran in the county politics Danson Mungatana squares it off with Governor Hussein Dado.Dado who ditched Wiper for the ruling party goes into the duel as an underdog considering he comes from the minority Orma tribe. However, the advantage of incumbency may give him a precious head-start.On the other hand, Mungatana who recently joined ODM before rescinding his decision hours later enjoys full backing from his majority Pokomo tribe. And buoyed by the entry of Tana River County Speaker Dr Nuh Nassir into his camp, Mungatana is a favourite to clinch the ticket.Already, Dr Nuh has the blessings of his Wardhei community. For Dado, his re-election path became even rocky after his deputy Jire Siyat decamped to the Nuh- Mungatana team.As to whether Mungatana will floor his rival en route to making a political come back remains to be seen. But the David vs Goliath scenario is also a possibility as the battle for numbers gains momentum.
