More than 2,500 families displaced by floods from Bakuyu, Ziwani, Madogo, Malkamanza and Mororo in Tana River on Wednesday received food donations from the county government and Bura CDF kitty all valued at over Shs 15 million.
Speaking on Wednesday when he launched the food distribution at Bakuyu and Ziwani, Tana North sub-county administrator Mohamed Gure said that the county government has also acquired portable toilets to be distributed in the temporary makeshift camps to address the issue of sanitation.
On water-borne diseases and malaria, Gure said more mosquito nets targeting expectant mothers, children and the elderly will form part of the relief aid to the victims in various temporary camps across the sub-county county.
“We have acquired portable toilets and assorted drugs to prevent the possible outbreak of malaria, cholera and other water-borne diseases. The toilets, mosquito nets and an assortment of drugs will arrive within the next 3 days,” Gure said.
The food donations by the county government included 650 bags (50kg each) of rice, 190 jerricans (10 liters each) and 150 bags (90 kgs each) of beans will benefit victims in Bakuyu, Ziwani, and Malkamansa where over 1,100 families are affected.
Bura CDF donated 100 bags (50kgs each) of rice, 10 bags (90 kgs each) of beans and 20 cartons (12 pieces of 1 liter each) to the over 800 displaced families in Mororo.
Yussuf Omar a CDF official said this was the first patch of food donation to the flood victims and the area MP source donations from well-wishers.
