Residents of Tana River County have been urged to be alert over floods.
Jerald Bombe, Kenya Red Cross Society Manager in charge of Tana River and Kitui counties said despite the minimal rains being experienced in the region, floods are likely to occur in the lowlands if there will be heavy downpour in Ukambani and Mt Kenya regions
“In the next few days, the county will experience heavy rains and floods are likely to occur. People living near the River Tana should start preparing to move to safer grounds in case floods strike,” he said.
He said the Kenya Red Cross is prepared to handle any flood emergencies in the county.
"Trained personnel including 20 volunteers in each of the three sub-counties are ready to handle any emergency", he said.
The county is expected to receive enhanced rains in the first half of November.
