Kenyatta University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) are among 19 universities that have been barred from enrolling students in their Tanzania campuses in September, for failing to meet standards.

The directive follows an audit by Tanzania Commission for Universities that revealed the two varsities had not complied with quality and standars in the institutions’ teaching.

“The audit report showed some weaknesses and shortcomings in these universities and, for that reason, there will be no admission of students in these universities in the 2017/2018 academic year,” TCU executive secretary Prof Eleuther Mwageni said in a public notice, seen by the Daily Nation.

The two universities will however continue teaching continuing students in their Arusha campuses.
