The Kenya National U17 Soccer team will not take part in the final match of this year’s edition of the CECAFA U17 tournament.
This is after Kenya was beaten 1-2 by neighbors Tanzania in the semi final match of the tourney played at the Gitega Stadium in Burundi on Wednesday.
The Kenyan Boys led by Coach Michael Amenga took the lead in the 10th minute courtesy of an Isaiah Abwal goal before Tanzania famously known as Serengeti Boys rallied to win the match and book a final spot.
Jafar Juma and Kelvin Paul scored for Tanzania in the 21st and 62nd minute to deny Kenya victory.
Kenya started the tournament in top form after seeing off hosts Burundi 4-0 in the first group game, before being held by Ethiopia to a goalless draw in the second game.
The team then lost by a solitary goal to Somalia in the last group game, but still qualified for the semis.
Tanzania will now play Somalia in the final match on Sunday.
Somalia beat Uganda in the other semi-final by a solitary goal.
Kenya will take on Uganda in the third-place playoff match on Sunday, few hours before the final.
