A re-known Tanzanian songbird has rejected Kenyan gospel musician Ringtone's marriage proposal.
Ray C who was in late 2016 discharged from a rehabilitation centre in Dar es Salaam said she no longer has time for men having undergone two heartbreaking relationships.
“I don’t have time for men,” she said during an interview on Radio Citizen's Mambo Mseto on Wednesday.
She had been tasked to make it public if she would accept Ringtone’s proposal.
“I thank God. What I have gone through in relationships is enough. The time ahead is about me. I have been into disappointing relationships. Wakati wa Kulialia umeisha (there is no more time to complain).”
Ray C has been off the music radar for about three years following her admission to a rehabilitation centre over hard drugs addiction.
In 2014, Tanzania’s then President Jakaya Kiwete was compelled to intervene following reports the addiction had made her health deteriorate.
She stayed in the Dar-based rehab for close to a year before being discharged.
Ringtone shortly after her discharge posted on Instagram revealing how he foreshadowed getting married to the ‘Umenikata Bila Sababu’ hit maker.
“Nimesahau mambo ya mapenzi na kuamua kuendelea na maisha yangu (I have cast a side relationship issues and decided to carry on with my life),” Ray C said when asked about the proposal.
“I have read about him on social media. But I don’t think. No. Not him.”
The last time she was admitted to rehab was in September 2016 after a video circulated on Facebook showing her fight a group of youth along a deserted street in Dar.
The youth were in the company police officers and were forcing her board a police patrol vehicle.
Residents living along the street who alerted the cops about her situation claimed she was high.
She is expected to visit Nairobi in May to shoot a video for her new song Unanimaliza.
Some of Kenya’s top artists expected to feature in the video include Red Sun and Wyre and Uganda’s Jose Chameleon.
