Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions Tusker FC have been bundled out of the SportPesa Super Cup tourney after they lost to Tanzanian side Yanga FC 4-2 on post-match penalties.
The match was played at Uhuru Stadium, Dar es Salaam yesterday Monday.
The two sides deadlocked at 0-0 at the end of regular time.
Yanga will now play Kenya's AFC Leopards in the first semi-final on Thursday.
Tusker's Clifford Alwanga and Stephen Owusu missed their penalties while Nadir Haroub, Obrey Chirwa, Maka Edward and Said Mussa slotted in for Yanga.
Noah Wafula and Brian Osumba scored the only goals for the brewers.
“I know how Tusker play and I instructed my players not to fall to their tricks. They played to my instructions and I am happy with the result. Young boys have the motive to push on, exactly what they did in the match despite Tusker having so many scoring chances,” said Yanga assistant coach Juma Mwambusi after the match.
Tusker Head Coach George Nsimbe was however a disappointed man with his forward line squandering chances in front of goal but took home some positives from the tournament.
“I brought on all my forwards but unfortunately none could score. In such a tournament only goals can assure of a win not penalties. We bow out honourably and wait for next year,” he said.
