Residents of Riana and Bomariba wards have asked a Chinese contractor tarmacking Nyamira–Igonga–Gesonso road to complete it in time saying traders using the road have been forced to use long routes to ferry their goods to the markets.

Geoffrey Maina, a resident in Riana ward said several traders have incurred losses after the road was closed for construction.

“The construction works have affected traders because motorbikes no longer use the road to ferry traders to the market. The contractor should speed up the construction and complete it in good time for traders and residents to access markets,” he said.

Euniah Oyaro, a trader said the road will boost the economy once completed.

“The road will help traders to reach markets in time because motorists will not have difficulties like in the past. We are urging the contractor to speed up the construction works,” she said.

The road was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 22, 2017.
