Kenya's largest mixed-used developer, Tatu city will in two weeks time apply for the power generation license from the Energy regulation commission ERC as it seeks to begin power supply to its consumers.
According to the Country head, Nick Langford, Tatu city power company will on November 20 apply for the power generation license if no individual, association or company will have raise complaints or objection to the request.
Tatu city operates 5000-acre mixed-used development in Kiambu county with schools, offices, shopping centers, nature areas, Medical Centers and entertainment facilities and it has attracted scores of industrial entities to its 425-acre light. industrial park special economic zone. Tatu had recently hired one of the largest engineering consulting firms from the United States, Power Engineers Inc, to check on the viability of the project.“Tatu City, the mixed-use satellite city near Nairobi has selected Power Engineers Inc to consult on the development’s power requirements. Power Engineers is one of the largest consulting engineering firms in the United States,” Tatu City said in a statement.Langford has however noted that the findings by the power consulting firm have shown that the project will not hurt any business, environment or individual within the facility and therefore there should be no worry. Tatu City’s Special Economic Zone status has provided reduced corporate taxes, customs, and excise duty exemptions thus attracting giant companies which include Heineken beverages distributor Maxam, Chandaria Tissue factory and Unilever that are currently developing warehouses and industrial plants on the farm.
