Kajiado tax collectors must meet their target or else heads will roll.
This is according to incoming Governor Joseph Ole Lenku.
Speaking on Monday after visiting all departments on his first day in office, Lenku took a no-compromise stance saying that meeting tax collection targets will be his “foremost priority”.
“I want to commit that we shall collect taxes and raise revenue, and anyone who comes between Lenku and taxes, for sure, they shall go home, no jokes,” he said.
He said he doesn’t want residents to miss county services because individual staffers slept on the job.
“I want to ensure the target on revenue collection is the foremost priority to enable the people of Kajiado get the services I promised during the campaigns. I’m not here to be corrupted by anybody and we must deliver,” he said.
He was speaking in response to sentiments raised earlier this year where outgoing governor David Nkedianye had accused revenue collection staff of forming cartels to swindle the county government of its money.
