Taxi operators in Kisii Town have raised concern over the recent rise in cases of carjacking and robbery with violence targeting them especially at night when their services are required the most.

Speaking in Kisii Town today the chairperson to Kisii Taxi Operators Tom Omambia said in the last three weeks there occurred two incidents where two taxi operators were attacked at night and one car was stolen.

Omambia said the incidents were new in the town and there was a need for the area police boss to take quick action before it gets out of hand.

“Two of our members have been robbed and so far the police have not recovered the car, we want the police to increase security in the area,” he added.

Omambia called on the police to intensify patrols to enable them operate without fear or endanger their lives.

He added that the government should install flood lights in all dark alleys which will act as a deterrent to the carjackers.

The area police boss was however not available in his office to give any comments on the same.
