The Education cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i announced that the government is keen on providing textbooks for students from next year, warning schools against asking parents to buy books.Through this move, it has been revealed, the Kenyan taxpayer will save about 13.8 billion shillings.7.5 billion shillings will be spent by the government on the programme down from 21.4 billion shillings.28,000 public schools and 7,000 public secondary schools will be directly supplied with books by the government through the Ministry of Education.A Mathematics book will now cost 273 shillings down from 643 shillings.All students will receive a copy of the books.The distribution of the books to schools will kick off in January next year.
