Tea farmers associated to Tendere have been called upon to ensure they open up bank accounts so that they can receive their payments.
According to the managing director Tendere Tea factory Julius Mogaka currently, their facility is holding close to Sh45 million that belongs top the farmers who haven’t opened valid bank accounts so that they can receive their payments.
Addressing some of the farmer’s officials on Monday morning, the director regretted that some of the farmers were complaining that they haven’t received their payments and yet they are the ones who haven’t given payment details.
“Most of the farmers do not have bank accounts hence forcing us to hold their money and I call upon them to ensure that they open up bank accounts which most banks in Kenya does for free and all you need is an id card” he added.
He added that many farmers could not access their payment because they had not opened accounts for onward transmission.
