Tea Farmers at Itumbe tea factory in Sameta Sub-County went on a rampage on Monday morning citing frustrations and poor management of the facility by managers.
Over a hundred farmers rebuked the management for favoring non local employees leaving their sons and daughters to languish in odd jobs outside the factory.
The irate farmers who were addressing the press outside the factory vowed to continue with the demonstration until their plight is addressed.
According to Rehema Kemunto, the factory was relocated to Kenyerere village from Itumbe centre following a land tussle.
They, however, agreed to donate land for the construction of the facility in a bid to create employment opportunities to the area residents but in vain.
Kevin Omburi area tea farmer added that residents are contracted on a casual basis for three months and rendered jobless for the rest of the year while people from elsewhere are given formal jobs.
They also castigated the local security for taking instructions from the management to quash their quest in demanding better working environment and thus harassing them.
John Magubo Otuke, director of Itumbe tea factory distanced himself from the allegations being orchestrated by farmers.
"As the management, they have never discriminated any employee on basis of their area of origin as purported," he said.
He added their recruitment is based on merit and qualifications of an individual
