Parents from Nyamira County have been urged to teach their children good morals in accordance to required standards.
Speaking at Nyansiongo parish on Sunday, Bishop Joseph Mairura said children should be exposed to good teachings at tender age to avoid questionable conduct in future.
He said rampant cases of children defying their elders can be combated if children were given good teachings either in the church or by their parents.
“We are all aware that currently children are disobeying their parents and guardians. This can be avoided if you bring them to church and teach them properly at home,” said Mairura.
Bishop Mairura said the Catholic Church through its catechists will be opening its gates of Saturday afternoons to pave way for morality training to children.
“Am soon instructing our catechists to start opening churches on Saturday afternoon to train our children,” noted Mairura.
He also noted rampant increase of drug abuse in the region and urged parents to take the affected children in rehabilitation centres.
“I have heard of several cases of drug abuse by school children from this area. The affected families should bring their children for counselling. It will help them learn to live without using dangerous drugs such as heroin and cocaine” he added.
