A teacher at Moricho Primary School in Rongai sub-county is fighting for his life after he was admitted at the Rongai Health centre on Tuesday evening in critical condition after allegedly consuming illicit brew.
Area sub chief John Komen said the teacher collapsed and passed out at a chang’aa-drinking den at Moricho business centre, after taking several glasses of the illicit brew.
According to the chief, Good Samaritans rushed the teacher to hospital on a motorbike taxi, after he was abandoned at the centre.
Komen added that he received the report from local elders and rushed to the scene and requested a bodaboda operator to rush the teacher to hospital before alerting his family.
"I have reported the matter to police and investigations are being carried out. The illicit brew seller will be arrested to help police with investigations as we wait for a report from the hospital,” said Komen.
He added that the village centre is notorious for brewing and selling illicit brews, which are suspected to contain toxic substances and which have in the past caused deaths to many residents.
