A teacher was on Sunday killed after a woman he was drinking with hit him with a beer bottle in Kegati Shopping Centre, Kegati sub-location, Kisii County.
Kisii County Police Commander Agnes Mudambi said the afternoon incident was reported by the area chief Charles Obonyo.
“We received a call from Mr Obonyo that residents had alerted him of the fight between the two indivduals in the bar. He then followed the victim to the bar and was told he had left for home before calling the police to assist him trace the teacher’s whereabouts,” she said.
According to area chief Mr Charles Obonyo, the teacher was having a drink at Rapcom Bar in Kegati when he picked a quarrel with lady companion.
“The deceased picked a quarrel with a female acquaintance at the bar at around 3 p.m. and after a heated exchange she then struck him twice with an empty beer bottle on the head. She then ran away from the scene, leaving him bleeding profusely,” said Mr Obonyo.
After the scuffle, the deceased then left for his home which is about 100 metres away from the bar and is said to have collapsed on arrival at his home.
Police officers traced him to his residence where they found him lying dead at the entrance to the living room.
“My officers who rushed to the residence found him lying dead at the entrance to the living room. The body had two deep cuts on the head on the head and marks consistent with strangulation on the neck,” said Ms Mudambi.
Officers recovered one broken beer bottle, bloodstained curtain and leso from the scene of crime, while the floors of the bar and his house were also bloodstained.
Mr Obonyo who filed the report with officers at Kisii Central Police Station identified the deceased as Wesley Mogire, 51, a teacher at Nyanko Primary School.
Meanwhile police are still looking for the suspect behind the teacher’s death who went missing after the incident.
"We have mounted a search for the suspect to assist us with investigations into the incident," Ms Mudambi said.
The body has been moved to Christa Marianne Hospital awaiting postmortem.
