Okumu said since the year begun more than 20 deaf students have dropped out of school due to fees problems.

Okumu said accessing CDF funds for the students has been impossible since many of them are drawn from various parts of the country.

“Whenever we approach any of the local leaders seeking for support for the students, we are told that they are beyond our jurisdiction and hence the kitty does not cater for them,” he added

Okumu was speaking in his office on Wednesday where he pointed out that many of the donors stopped supporting the children, forcing them to stay at home due to abject poverty.

“Most of the ones who are currently in school also cannot afford the whole amount and they send little chunks of money. This being a national school for the deaf we have parents from all over Kenya and it is quite hard for them to raise the recommended fees,” he added

He is now appealing to well wishers to help raise the required amount.

“let's give these deaf people a chance in life,” he added.
