The High Court in Kisumu has sentenced a P1 trained teacher to 30 years in prison.
Justice David Majanja issued the sentence on Thursday, sending Martha Auma Nyagol, after she was found guilty of murdering her husband Jared Ochieng' on May 27, 2014, by strangling him.
Nyagol who hails from Kabondo, Homa Bay County, first disappeared from the court chambers on March 21, shortly after she was found guilty of the crime.
She returned the following day with her elder sister, Lillian Ajwang.
According to the judge the accused was alone in the house on the material night when on her own admission, she strangled the deceased over marital problems.
"The act of strangling a person is calculated and deliberate. It is intended to cause death and constitutes malice aforethought,” said the judge.
Her lawyer, Stephen Odumbe unsuccessfully defended the accused saying she was under compulsion when she strangled the husband.
