Teachers from Uasin Gishu County have applauded the judiciary for the ruling made on Thursday regarding their pay increase.
Speaking during the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Eldoret West branch AGM, Branch Chair Francis Soi said that the judiciary had displayed independence of the highest level.
"We want to thank the judiciary for their ruling. We have been struggling with this issue for a very long time," Soi said.
He added that they were not yet content with the 50-60 per cent increment though it was a good start.
"This increment is better than nothing though we wanted 300 percent," he added.
Echoing his applause, KNUT National Vice Secretary John Matiang'i said that the judiciary had shown that it can be trusted.
They were speaking in reference to the court of appeals decision for Teachers' Service Commission (TSC) to implement the Industrial Court's ruling as they await the hearing of their petition on September 22, 2015.
