Kisii South Knut branch executive secretary Geoffrey Mogire has said teachers are keenly watching who they will support in the 2017 general election.
Addressing the media in Nyamira on Wednesday in show of solidarity with their colleague and Nyamira Knut branch chairman Kennedy Nyamwanda who was arraigned in court over hate speech, Mogire said tutors will support leaders who are ready to work with them.
“We are here to show solidarity with our fellow teacher who has been arraigned in court for allegedly abusing the President. We want to tell the country that teachers are always united and are keen on who we will elect come 2017,” said Mogire.
“We will elect leaders who work with teachers so that we can get better services so we are putting the incumbent leaders on notice that the teachers are watching just waiting for that date on August,” said Mogire
Mogire further challenged the government through the Teachers Service Commission to work on teachers so that they can end challenges facing them.
He said the State won't intimidate teachers in any way and that their leaders will not stop articulating issues affecting them.
"If there is any political behind this intimidation and malice, let them know that 2017 is just coming," said Mogire.
