Teachers from Masinga and Yatta Sub County in Machakos county have been cautioned against reporting to North Eastern specifically Mandera County when schools re-open early next year.
Addressing reporters at Yatta trading center on Tuesday, Regional Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) executive Kasimba Ngui asked teachers to keep off Mandera until when the government will boost security.
He said that the inscurity situation in Mandera and adjacent counties is not good for teachers and any other Kenyans.
“We want to ask teachers not to report at their places of work in Mandera once the schools re-open in January until when security will be guaranteed,” he said.
The Knut Executive said that they lost several teachers who were hardworking and committed to their work in the Mandera bus attack two weeks ago.
He said that they are not ready to lose any other person and that teachers should hid the advise and stay away from Mandera.
Kasimba said that plans are underway to deploy the affected teachers to other schools across the county if the security situation is not improved.
The official asked the government to take security matters with the seriousness it deserves. “ The government must now wake up and face the challenge of addresisng insecurity,”he added.
Kasimba observed that its the responsibility of the government to boost security and ensure its citizens are safe.
Two of the 28 victims of the Mandera bus attack hailed from Machakos county and were buried over the weekend with leaders who attended the burial calling for proper security intelligence and action by the governement.
