The county government of Nyamira should support academic clinics organised by various schools across the county to support learners.
Peter Nyamamba from Sironga Girls who coordinates academic clinics on Friday urged the county government to help his Academic Freedom Movement to extend the exercise to all schools in the county.
According to Nyamamba, the exercise has been benefiting students from established schools during holidays with its results evident in national exams results.
“All learners cannot be the same," he said at Riosagio Secondary School.
"We have those who are quick and those who are in the category of slow learners. But if we expand the academic clinic that targets slow learners we will definitely see great results in national exams. We have tried it with some schools and the impact has been prolific."
Mr Nyamamba said academic excellence from the county should be given first priority by the county government through the exercise.
“The county government has a role to play. We are ranked on the basis of county and the issue that education is not a devolved function should not arise at all. As part of the team who conducts the exercise, it is time the county government helps the candidates pay for the services for better results,” he added.
He said regular time stipulated by the Ministry of Education was not enough to help weak learners perform in national exams.
“The eight hours given by the government are not enough to help the weak learners. But through the academic clinics, we can be able to realise something during holidays,” he added.
The academic clinic which attracts students from different schools has been held in Sironga and Kebabe High Schools for the period of five years.
