Holiday tuition had been banned by the Education Ministry.

The teachers were nabbed by police after Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang made an impromptu stop at Ahero Girls on his way to Kisumu from Kisii where he had been supervising the ongoing KCSE exams.

"I was on my way to Kisumu when a group of students coming from the school attracted my attention," the PS said.

"They were in civilian clothes and when I inquired from the pupils, they told me they were being taught. The government banned holiday tuition in the country and it is illegal for any school to conduct it. Anyone found conducting tuition in the country will be answerable for breaking the Basic Education Act."

The Education PS further called for the interdiction of the school's head teacher Fredrick Owaga, who was away marking the just concluded KCPE exams.

According to Kipsang, the head teacher was responsible for all the activities in the school and he believed the teacher knew there was an ongoing tuition in the school.
