Tutors in youth polytechnics in Kisii are demanding for an apology from a Kisii County official for allegedly insinuating that some of them lack the required education qualifications.

Kisii County Chief Officer for Education, David Kebiro is alleged to have said in an on-air interview on Sunday morning that some of the tutors who are demanding to be offered permanent employment are not qualified to be teaching in such institutions.

Speaking to journalists on Monday in Kisii Town during a demonstrations at the Kisii County headquarters, Getrude Omambia, from Riatiriba Youth Polytechnic said Okebiro should apologise for the alleged utterance that has angered them.

“We wonder why he says that some of us are not qualified. When did he come and ask for our certificates ? We are educated enough and let him not abuse our profession. He must take back what he said,” she said.

However, Okebiro who spoke to the press on Monday in his office denied the allegations and said he cannot apologise for something he was not aware of.

He said the only institution that can ascertain the qualifications of the tutors is the County Public Service Board that is responsible for their recruitment.

“That is why we asked them to be vetted by the public service board before letting them be confirmed as permanent employees,” the chief officer said.
