The former teachers from the three North Eastern Counties of Wajir, Mandera and Garissa should be deployed at Gesima Zone in bid to curb the understaffing in the region, an education officer has said.
Speaking at Nyaronge village in Nyamira County Sunday in a burial ceremony,Robert Obiria said the region was experiencing serious shortage of teachers due to the exponential rise of pupils due to free Primary and subsidized secondary education.
The teachers, who have been out of work since January following spontaneous terrorist attacks in the region are said to have started receiving transfer letters but are still being deployed to other vulnerable areas like Turkana and West Pokot.
“Our Zone is receiving many students especially in the lower primary perhaps due to free primary education. However, we do not have enough teachers to attend to them and I call upon TSC to transfer teachers from North Eastern who have been out of session,” he said.
He asked the government to give security of a teacher priority in bid to motivate the educationist to impart knowledge to pupils.
“I am a government official and so are the teachers. Security of every Kenyan is mandatory and should not be taken for granted,” he said
