Teachers in Kimbo and Mwihoko area in the outskirts of Githurai have raised concerns over the theft that has been going on in different schools in the area.
Speaking on a telephone interview, the Deputy Principal of Mwihoko Primary School Mrs Karanja said that robbers had broken into classes and made away with the pupils books.
"It was on Monday morning when the students reached school only to find that robbers had broken into the classes and stolen books. This is quiet a rare incident but it seems it has started to increase in the area and the police should do something about it," said Mrs Karanja.
In Springs valley academy things were not any different as the managing director of the school told Hivi sasa reporters that several classes had been broken into and a number of books had been stolen.
"It is sad that thieves have turned to educational institutions to steal books which I suspect are sold to other kids cheaply. They broke into several classes and stole a lot of books since most students leave their books at school," said the director.
In Brilliant Academy a class 8 pupil said that thieves broke into a class 3 classroom and made away with a lot of books.
"I now have to carry my books every day which is hectic, to prevent the loss incurred after losing them," said the girl.
The parents however, had a different opinion and blamed the schools for laxity.
"The schools should employ watchmen, we pay a lot of fees which can as well help in paying the guard’s salary," said Mrs Alice Anyieni a parent in springs valley academy.
Another parent Mrs Rachael Motari echoed the sentiments and also warned the robbers that their days were numbered.
