Teachers living with HIV in Kisumu County have urged their colleagues to come out openly to get tested and live positively. During the launch of Kenya Network for HIV Positive Teachers Kisumu County chapter, a teacher living with HIV and sought anonymity said there is need for teachers to know their status. She said many teachers still are not aware of their status and believe in witchcraft thus the need to step up the campaign to have their colleagues to get tested. She said they need to walk as a team to fight stigma and reduce new infections. “We can be strong if we walk as a team to confront these challenges,” she said. Speaking in the sidelines of the launch of the network in Kisumu, the teacher said they have encouraged their members to reach out to school going children and the school community on HIV awareness. She said the scourge needs a concerted effort to defeat and losing teachers to the disease will affect education standards in the county. The teacher noted that the empowerment she has received since she joined the network has made her to live peacefully and continue with her duties.
