Over 200 teachers from Community and Private schools in Mombasa have converged at the Vision of Hope Academy in Miritini to discuss the new syllabus to be implemented from next year.
The syllabus which involves changing the new curriculum of education from 8-4-4 system to 2-6-6-3 has elicited heated debate from education stakeholders in Mombasa.
Speaking at the Miritini Vision of Hope Academy for the Orphans, the Director and proprietor of the school Juma Mohammed Lubambo said that teachers should clearly understand how the new system will be implemented so that they adhere to it and give students the best in their education.
He said that the new system was not bad but aimed at developing the education sector in the Country.
Juma appealed to teachers to embrace the new system and always seek assistance from the Ministry of education whenever there are problems in their schools.
The education stakeholders who is also the Secretary-General of the ‘Alternative Providers For Basic Education and Training-APBET in the Country, an association of proprietors, Managers and Teachers of community schools serving children from less fortunate families countrywide said that it was through the new education system that children would get better education and nurture their talents as well.
“Let us all embrace the new education system, work with the Ministry of Education so that we can improve on the education sector in our Country” he added.
He also appealed to the Ministry of Education to provide relevant text books to all Primary and Secondary schools so that teachers can properly implement the education system.
“The text books to be provided by the Ministry of education should also cater for pupils and students in our community schools we should not discriminate against our poor children in slums or in those schools managed by religious and community leaders” he added.
On their part teachers and education stakeholders in the Community schools association, Rose Nyawera and Priscah Nyabweka lauded the four-day training programme and education forum saying it will equip them with necessary skills, techniques and information to tackle their assignments when schools resume next week.
