The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) faces yet another task in finding a solution to rewarding teachers after they (teachers) rejected their annual appraisal.
The exercise, which was started last year by the employing body, is said to have pushed teachers to ‘unprofessional’ limits.
The decision to scrap the system was agreed upon by the teachers during their annual delegates meeting in Mombasa which ended last week.
“The delegates urged the TSC to remove the infamous TPAD/appraisals contracting as it has subjected teachers to untold and unprofessional discharge of duty,” the union’s resolutions since forwarded to the government said.
The systems is used to apprise, assign, train and promote teachers, with the head teachers’ performances rated through performance and development.
According to TSC chief executive officer Nancy Macharia, the commission has put in place necessary framework for the implementation of the whole system.
“The programme will be rolled out in 2018 and will be offered in various models by TSC-accredited service providers,” Dr Macharia said as quoted by the Nation.
“The courses will be accessed at school level with training centres during school holidays and online,” he added.
