A local foundation that has been issuing continuous assessment tests to various primary schools in Nyamira county has come under immense criticism from a section of teachers from the region.
Dr Joy Kerubo Foundation, whose proprietor is a US-based Kenyan Doctor’s coordinators, has been accused of printing a series of tests without involving education stakeholders from the county.
Nyamira Primary School examination panel on Thursday urged management of local schools to boycott the exams until a working framework is and coordination is arrived by the panel and the exams coordinators.
“We want to urge all teachers in Nyamira County to boycott any future tests issued by the foundation until we find a common working plan. We cannot accept issuance of exam papers without involving education stakeholders from the region,” said the panel’s chairman, Mr Samuel Nyangena.
According to them, the examinations were exposing area children to a state of panic since most questions were no longer part of the requirements in the syllabus.
“As a panel, we have gone through some of the papers and we are convinced that our children are subjected to a state of panic since they are handling questions that are no longer in the syllabus. Therefore, we must have a common work plan to avoid subjecting our children to a state of panic,” he added.
The foundation's coordinator Kefa Osiri said she was ready to have a meeting with the teachers but insisted the foundation was keen to promote education by issuing test papers.
“I have no problem with meeting our esteemed teachers. We are ready as a foundation to negotiate but let it be not a plan to hamper activities that promote education,” he told this writer on phone.
