The Teachers Service Commission has directed teachers selected by IEBC for the October 17 presidential repeat election to get permission from their county directors.

According to TSC CEO Nancy Macharia teachers are public officers who should remain non-partisan during the election.

In a circular dated September, 7 Macharia directed school head teachers to ensure learning in their respective schools goes on uninterrupted.

“Teachers should be adequately supervised during the electioneering period. In particular, head teachers will be required to remain at their workstations throughout,” she said.

Macharia noted the safety of learners and property at schools that will be used for polls is the sole responsibility of school heads.

“All learners should be supervised effectively to ensure cases of indiscipline or unrest are prevented," she noted.

She further directed any case of unrest, the school heads should report to police.

“In the event of unrest, security agencies and key stakeholders should be informed without delay to enable appropriate action", she added.

The repeat of presidential polls will be conducted 2 weeks before national examinations kick off.

KCPE exams will start on October 31 and end on November 2 and KCSE is scheduled to begin on November 6 and end on November 29.
