Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been urged to iron out sticking issues with the Treasury to allow teachers to receive their November pay. Kisumu County Kenya Union of Post Primary Education chairperson Zablon Awange said the mode of payment has been a bone of contention between the two entities noting that teachers are suffering as they make endless trips to their various banks to get payment that has not been effected. “Teachers are suffering as a result of this delay in payment. Most of them are starnded and their plans halted because of this,” he said. He explained that the commission is not comfortable with a new payment system being fronted by treasury. “Some teachers enroll for examinations during holidays with various universities across the country and without payment they might even miss examinations,” he said. Addressing the press in Kisumu, Awange said teachers should not be caught in the standoff to decide on the mode of payment adding that they too should be paid in time. “The fact that teachers are in holiday does not mean they have to be kept waiting for their monthly payment,” he said. He further warned of unspecified action should the commission fail to remit the November salary anytime soon.
