Head teachers from schools within Athi River have been urged to be strict on dressing code to ensure that students dress properly and avoid unnecessary embarrassment.
Speaking at Mavoko Secondary School on Sunday, Athi River MCA Michael Mutua, said some of the students from the schools in the district dressed indecently.
“Teachers should be strict and ensure students, more so in high schools, from this region dress properly to avoid unnecessary embarrassments,” said Mutua.
Mutua disclosed that some of the student dress in mini skirts, exposing parts of their body, which he observed was immoral and embarrassing, further compromising education environment.
He said the female students provoked their fellow students more so in mixed schools, including their male teachers, who at times were aroused by the dress code, leading to cases of sexually molestation.
The MCA said there had been reported incidents where female students were allegedly sexually assaulted by unknown or even known assailants, only to find out that they were poorly dressed.
He also called on parents with children in day schools to frequently keep checking on their dressing codes, arguing that even male students dress improperly with sagging long trousers leaving them half necked.
