Tears, sorrow, and grief marked the burial ceremony of nine family members who died last week in a road crash along the Nyeri-Nyahururu road.
The nine, all members of the Kiboye Self Help Group perished in a horrible road accident as they headed home from a burial in Mukurwe-ini, Nyeri County.
The emotional ceremony took place at Gaitethia secondary school grounds in Nyandarua as a joint mass was held for the victims.
Hundreds of mourners were accompanied by elected leaders from the region who attended the service with the Public Service Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki reading President Uhuru Kenyatta’s message of condolence.
Local leaders told the government to ensure all PSV drivers enroll at the NYS for discipline courses, as this is the only way to ensure they maintain law and order.
“All drivers know that when you are driving, you are carrying people and not sacks of luggage, please let us drive carefully. And traffic officers, ensure that you protect the passengers by ensuring all road users obey the laws,” said Kariuki.
It was a tough time for the transport sector at the close of 2017, with accidents taking lives of hundreds of Kenyans within a short period.
