The shock 3-1 defeat that Egypt suffered in the hands of a rampant Russia Tuesday night blindsided Garissa football-loving residents.
They just did not see it coming.
With Salah back after a vicious battle to recover from a shoulder injury sustained during a UEFA Champions League final, hopes were high that the Pharaoh's would emerge victorious with a decisive win.
Those hopes were dashed after the Egyptians conceded three goals and only managed a consolation goal thanks to a well-executed penalty by Mo Salah.
"I was broken. I cried after they lost. We hoped that they would carry the day," Mumina Galgalo says as he battles tears mightily but fails.
The residents here hope that Saudi Arabia will prevail against Uruguay and that Uruguay will lose against Russia.
The Pharaohs are held in high esteem in Garissa and the vast majority of football-lovers were rooting for them.
