A man broke into tears after being recruited to join police in his ninth attempt to join the force on Monday.
David Mulwa, 26, a resident of Kalimatuto Village in Muthwani location, Athi River sub county said he had continuously tried his luck to join the police force since 2008.
“I am very excited today because I have finally gone through in my ninth attempt to join the police forces, this is a dream come true,” Mr Mulwa told this writer in Athi River deputy county commissioner's offices after the exercise.
He was selected to join the administration police during the one-day exercise.
Mulwa said he had been depending on sand harvesting to earn him bread in his village to fend for his wife and one child since he sat his KCSE in 2007.
The last born in a family of four headed by a single father after losing his mother in 2002 scored C minus at Kaani High School in Machakos County.
Officer in charge of the exercise in the region, Samuel Waweru said the exercise was not competitive since less than 100 youth turned up at the KMC recruitment grounds to try their luck.
Mr Waweru said out of the 32 selected, 29 were men while 3 were women.
He said most of the youth were dropped from the exercise due to failure to meet academic and medical qualifications.
“We have not received any complaints from the participants, those shortlisted were the best in all aspects as per the laid down requirements. They had the right academic qualifications and desired medical reports with good bodies physically,” said Waweru.
The recruitment exercise which began at 9.00am went on until 9.00pm after it was interrupted by rains.
The officers were forced to seek shelter at the deputy county commissioner’s office as they concluded the paper work.
